BREAKING NEW GROUND |
Cosby off to Germany for Golf Challenge
Leicester Mercury Friday, October 25, 1985
The first official golf match between club sides from England and West Germany takes place this weekend when a contingent from Cosby take on Leicester's twin city of Krefeld, Germany.
Cosby captain Terry Watts, a keen "twinner" for many years, is the driving force behind the encounter which is a landmark in sport between the two countries, let alone the two cities.
He and Cosby professional Kevin Barnes will lead the team which includes two guests, former County Alliance president John Massey from Glen Gorse and Kibworth's Ivan Neal. |

The match will take place tomorrow, after two practice rounds over the Krefeld course, which is a 6,070 metres, par72 track, and there is a civic reception for the Cosby contingent. |

Both sides hope this will be the start of a long running series of annual matches, home and away, which will strengthen their links | |||
Matches have continued to played both
in Krefeld and Cosby, now only every other year. Richard has played in every match to date and expects to visit Krefeld again in September 2002. Perhaps we will get some better pictures of the golf course this time. |
